Facility Manager in InfoSWMM and InfoSWMM SA helps you Control Active and Inactive Elements

The Facility Manager is used to create and maintain the active facility set. The active facility set defines the network components in a current model that will be considered during the next simulation run(s). Facility sets can also be associated with a scenario via the Scenario Explorer. By default, only the active facility set is displayed on the project screen. Inactive components are hidden from the user until they are reactivated. However, the user has the option to view inactive facilities in the project by changing the default setting through theDisplay Settings Display tab of the Preferences Preferences dialog box.

Unlike the Domain Manager which is used to create a temporary subset of data elements in a project for quick editing and graphical manipulation, the Facility Manager is used to select elements (e.g., subset of a drainage system) to be considered during model simulation. In other words, only the facilities selected (active facility sets) are considered during simulation, and inactive (deactivated) facilities are regarded as non-existent during model simulations. Facility Manager Description

To initiate the facility manager dialog box, shown below, do one of the following:

  • From InfoSWMM Tools Menus
    • From InfoSWMM Control Center Toolbar, click on InfoSWMM button
    • Select the Tools menu, and click on the Facility Manager .
  • From InfoSWMM Edit Network Toolbar
  • From H2OMAP SWMM Tools Menu
    • Select Domain and click on the Domain Manager, or
  • From H2OMAP SWMM Edit Toolbar
    • Click on the (i.e. Facility Manager) button, and you will see the following dialog box.

Element Source

Apply to Active Facility Only - This check box applies to active facilities created from the Facility Manager only. If not checked, selection will include all elements, regardless of active/inactive status.

  • Map Selection – Pick the network components to be included in the domain in the map view. Using the mouse, drag and drop a rectangle around the area to be selected or select individual elements. When selection is completed right click and either select Enter to accept the selection or Cancel to disregards the selection and exit.
  • DB Query - Define those network components to be included in the domain by way of a database query statement
  • Query Set – Define those network components to be included in the domain with a query set (a collection of individual database query statements).
  • Selection Set – Include those components in an existing selection set into the domain.
  • Special Query – Include all network components that meet the criteria of one of the special predefined queries. Examples of special queries are all orphan nodes etc
  • Network – Include all network components, or alternately, all components of a single component type, in the facility set/domain.
  • Network Path - Allows the user to select a group of elements along a path by selecting the beginning and end node. A path is automatically selected connecting the beginning and end points and entered into the domain. The path selection process will attempt to find the shortest distance between selected node points. If a particular path is desired, short segments can be selected and joined together or added to an existing domain.

Content of the Facility Manager dialog box are described below:

Name Description
Element Selection Source
  • Lets you specify or select the data elements to be included in a facility (i.e., facility set).

·

  • Map Selection – Pick the network components to be included in the facility using the selection tool manually.
  • Domain - Considers elements in a Domain, if it exists, as an active facility set.
  • DB Query - Define those network components to be included in the facility via a database query statement.
  • Query Set – Define those network components to be included in the facility via a query set (a collection of individual database query statements).
  • Selection Set – Include those components in an existing selection set into the facility set.
  • Special Query – Include all network components that meet the criteria of one of InfoSWMM 's predefined special queries options. Examples of special queries are all Junctions with external inflow, Conduits with non-circular shape, Subcatchments with initial pollutant buildup, etc.
  • Network Options – Include all network components, or alternately, all components of a single component type, in to a facility set.
  • Network Path - The user select the starting node and the final node, and then the model includes all elements within the two nodes ( following the pipe direction) into a facility.
Add Connecting Nodes Adds in to the facility the nodes connected to the links in a facility set
Add Adds the specified components (using an option from the Element Source panel) to add to elements to the facility. Once elements are selected and added to a facility, you may optionally remove facilities from the facility using the Remove button.
Replace Replace the existing facility by the new one. It clears the existing facility, and creates facility out of the newly selected elements.
Remove Remove the specified components (using one of the options from the Element Source panel) from the facility set. This option is active only after you have added components with the Add buttons.
Activate All Considers all network elements in the project as an active facility set.
Inverse Deactivates the existing facility, and creates facility out of the elements not currently included in the facility.
Reset Resets the facility set to the default setting.
Save Remembers the active facility. You can retrieve this facility at any time by choosing the Restore button.
Restore... Retrieves the most recently saved facility and activates that facility.
Close Closes the dialog box

Facility Manager Methodology

Facility sets are used to choose the data elements in your project that you want to consider for running your model. Only these elements will be used while conducting the analysis.

  • If you are using the InfoSWMM SA ribbon choose the Facility Manager (if you are using H2OMap SWMM or InfoSWMM the ribbon shows the command organization of the SWMM interface GUI's

·

  • Select Domain and click on the Domain Manager, or

From H2OMAP SWMM Edit Toolbar ·

  • Click on the (i.e. Facility Manager) button, and you will see the following dialog box.

From the Facility Manager dialog box, decide the element selection source and specify your choice. Click on the Add button to add the facilities to the active facility set. At this point, only those elements activated will retain their color, all others will turn grey or turn off (depending on the options specified at the Display Settings tab of the Preferences Display tab of the Preferences dialog box). If you conduct a model run at this point, only those elements selected would be modeled (as long as the scenario facility option for the currently *active* scenario under the Scenario Explorer was set to "Active Network"). If you wish, you may enlarge (i.e. add more elements to the facility set) or reduce (remove some elements from the facility set) using the Activate Elements ( ) and Deactivate Elements ( ) features available from the Edit Network Toolbar Facility Toolbar , respectively. Also, you may Reset Facility (remove all elements from the facility set) or activate all elements using the Reset Facility ( ) and the activate all ( ) features available from the Edit Network Toolbar Facility Toolbar . You may also add elements in a Domain to a facility set using the Activate Domain ( ) feature available from the Edit Network ToolbarFacility Toolbar . Top of Page

Facility Manager Example

The following is a simple example of the use of the Facility Manager. This example uses the Sample model supplied with your installation of InfoSWMM :

1. The Sample model contains three scenarios in addition to the Base scenario. The FUTURE3 scenario is chosen and the scenario is then activated. See Scenario Explorer.

2. Now, suppose that you are having trouble getting the model to run because of certain elements and want to run your model without them to check everything else. Open the Facility Manager tool:

3. Select "Map Selection" as the Element Source. Click the Remove button . The Facility Manager dialog box disappears and allows you to select elements from the map. Now select by clicking on elements or windowing across an area of elements. Note that windowing settings can be changed at this time by right-clicking inside the map and choosing a different setting.

4. Now the elements are highlighted:

5. Now right-click in the map area and select "Enter". The Facility Manager dialog box returns and the selected elements are deactivated such that the simulation will ignore them when you run it. Note that how inactive elements are displayed is controlled by settings in Display Settings Display .

6. The elements can later be reactivated when appropriate by the same method but by using the Add button . Please note that since this particular scenario is set up to use the entire network as the facility set. Therefore, the changes made with Facility manager are temporary and will be reset if you switch to a different scenario and then return to this scenario. If you want changes to the facility set to be more permanent, you can set the facility set to be "Intelli-Selection":
