Steps for making Smooth River Reach Joins in ICM from Channels
This is the end Result: A joining of three river reaches that were created using the Channel to River Reach tool in ICM. The three joined river reaches consist of the components:
1. A break node where all three river reaches connect
2. Three Center line river reaches created from the original three channels
3. Three Section lines centered at the Break node from the original channel cross section data
4. Six bank lines created from the Section ends of the three river reaches
5. Three river reach boundaries consisting of the river reach two end section lines and two created bank lines
The steps to make the end result are shown in the rest of this note.
What were the steps taken to create this river reaches?
Step 1. Use the tool Convert selected channels to river reaches
Step 2. Create the Bank Lines from the Section Ends which were created in Step 1.
Step 3. Build the banks of the river reach from the banks built in Step 2.
Step 4. Use the tool Model/River Reach/Build Boundary from Banks and Sections Ends make the full River Reach
Step 5. Any crossing lines can be fixed by using the Edit Geometry tool to add or move vertex points

Step 1. Using the tool Model/Convert Selected Channels to River Reaches to change the prismatic channel into a River Reach with an upstream and downstream River Sections.
Step 2. Using the tool Model/River Reach/Create Bank Lines from Section Ends to make a left and right bank for the River Reach.
Step 2a. Build Banks from selected lines.
Step 3. Using the tool Model/River Reach/Build Boundary from Banks and Sections Ends make the full River Reach
Step 3a. Build Bank Connections
Step 3b. Re-mesh
Step 4. The upstream and downstream nodes of the River Reach should be Break Nodes
Step 5. Connect any downstream 1D elements to the downstream Break Node of the River Reach
Step 5a. Connect any upstream 1D elements to the upstream Break Node of the River Reach
Step 6. Link Suffix’s and the Left and Right Bank discharge coefficient and modular limit may have to be altered
